The call for the elimination of single-use plastic products, and water conservation is behind this South African and USA researched repurposable flexible packaging solution.
Further research, both locally and abroad, enables us to share this upstream packaging redesign and application idea with global brand owners, retailers and others seeking green solutions in the fight against global warming, plastic pollution, and water shortages.

OUR SOLUTIONReducing Plastic Usage/Conserving Water

Three (3) current products on the market consisting of three differently sized stand-up pouches which can, after first-use as packaging, be repurposed as cistern/tank water savers following upstream redesign.
Plastic is consequently kept out of landfills, rivers and seas, and value is added to the plastic.
The carbon footprint for plastic is accordingly reduced.
An EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) friendly solution.
The three stand-up pouches are 150mmx230mm (750 ml), 180mmx250mm (1L) and 180mmx290mm (1,5L) - see Attachment 1.
The functional position in the cistern/tank is per Attachment 2 - water is saved by displacement. Fill the pouch with water and place in the said functional position.
The range is suitable, but not limited to, home/personal care products in the 750ml, 1L and 1,5L sizes per the Attachments.
Being the packaging, consumers receive the added social benefit of an effective no-cost water saver.
The range can contribute significantly to mitigating cistern water wastage on several continents.
APPLICATIONS:
- An upstream redesign example would be the elimination of spouts on the 1,5L & 1,0L pouches, and repositioning of ✂️ for a level aperture on 750ml pouch- Attachment 1.
- Examples of products, currently on the market, suitable for upstream redesign for circularity - Attachment 3.
- Existing retail products can be complimented with the redesigned pouches as refills to increase circularity.
- Similarly, existing retail products can be substituted with the redesigned pouch to increase circularity.
- Stand-up pouches in the 1,0L and 1,5L sizes are considered as universal in their application as water savers and a single solution for the USA/Canada and neighbouring countries regulated tank/cistern infrastructure - Attachment 4.
- All three pouches are considered a solution for Africa and other continents re: circularity and cistern water savings.
- Known products on the market that would only require upstream Artwork redesign for circularity - Attachment 5.
- Known products on the market that would require no upstream redesign - Attachment 6
